Necessary Noise In NJ

On Saturday, February 10, TRANSIT will perform in Mantra Percussion’s Necessary Noise Festival, which is organized by our percussionist, Joe Bergen. The festival features both students and professionals playing pieces which feature percussion, and there will be seven hours of music beginning at 2pm. We are scheduled to perform at 7pm, and we have an excellent hour-long program to present:

What I’m Trying to Say is… by Angélica Negrón

Piano Trio I by Leaha Villarreal

Lilly Pad by Ruby Fulton

in absentia by Paula Matthusen

Still Life with Avalanche by Missy Mazzoli
with special guest artist Katie Cox

I’ll Fly Away (adapted from By and By for String Quartet) by Caroline Shaw
with special guest artist Lainie Fefferman

This program will include mini megaphones, a Speak and Spell, harmonicas, and electronics floating out of the piano, among other surprises. Each piece is amazing on its own, and the whole program paints a picture of why we deserve to hear more music being written by women.

Leaha Villareal’s Piano Trio I commemorates the loss of the composer’s mother, drawing inspiration from this recycled sunlight installation by Robert Montgomery.

Hear our violinist Andie Springer perform with Lainie Fefferman in the 6 o’clock hour! They will be premiering new works by Lainie for violin, voice, and melodica.
