Sound/Current is a special TRANSIT initiative established to explore innovative approaches to electro-acoustic music by emerging composers and sound artists. This ongoing project seeks to commission, perform, and record experimental new works that contribute new and interesting perspectives to the continual development of electro-acoustic music.
As technology becomes increasingly interwoven into the daily fabric of society, it is only natural that many artists are reflecting these changes in their work. In light of these developments, TRANSIT feels strongly that it is important for performers to evolve accordingly, and to work alongside innovative composers as they develop new techniques and ideas about sound and performance. TRANSIT has worked with a wide array of emerging composers and sound-artists on new electro-acoustic works including Ryan Carter, Lesley Flanigan, Angélica Negrón, Tristan Perich, Sergei Tcherepnin, Samson Young, and Daniel Wohl. Their recording of Daniel Wohl’s evening-length Corps Exquis is slated for release on the New Amsterdam Records label in 2013.
Sound/Current projects have been supported by organizations including Meet the Composer, American Composers Forum, the Puffin Foundation, Contemporary Musiking, and Harvestworks.
